Meat imports in August 2024: 200,000 tons of pork, 41,000 tons of poultry, and 230,000 tons of beef

On September 18, the General Administration of Customs released the "Table of Volume and Value of Major Imported Commodities in August 2024". According to the data in the table, in August this year, China imported a total of 570,000 tons of meat (including offal), a year-on-year decrease of 9.9%, and the import value was 13.93 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 19.1%.

From January to August, the cumulative import of meat (including offal) was 4.4 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 13.9%, and the total import value was 108.98 billion yuan, which was still in a downward state year-on-year, down 19.2%.

Pork import market

In August, 200,000 tons of pork and pork offal were imported, with an import value of RMB 3.04 billion, down 2.3% and 9.9% year-on-year respectively. In the first eight months of this year, the country imported a total of 1.5 million tons of pork and pork offal, with an import value of RMB 21.97 billion, which was also in a downward state year-on-year, down 23.1% and 34.4%.

Poultry meat import market

In August, the import volume of poultry meat recovered to 41,909 tons, a slight increase from the previous month and a decrease of 27% from the same period last year. The import value was RMB 790 million, a year-on-year decrease of 25.7%; the cumulative import volume from January to August was 272,526 tons.
