Overall trade situation

In August 2024, China's import and export of livestock and poultry meat products1 was 2137.8 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 16.4%. Among them, exports were 185.4 million US dollars, up 20.4% year-on-year; imports were 1952.4 million US dollars, down 18.8% year-on-year; net imports for the month were 1952.4 million US dollars.
From January to August 2024, China's cumulative import and export of livestock and poultry meat products was 16690.2 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 19.1%. Among them, cumulative exports were 1359.5 million US dollars, up 9.0% year-on-year; cumulative imports were 15330.6 million US dollars, down 20.9% year-on-year: cumulative net imports were 13971.1 million US dollars.

In August 2024, China's total import and export volume of livestock and poultry meat products was 619.9 thousand tons, a year-on-year decrease of 6.9%. Among them, exports were 54.8 thousand tons, a year-on-year increase of 42.4%; imports were 565.1 thousand tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.9%. From January to August 2024, China's cumulative import and export volume of livestock and poultry meat products was 4785.9 dry tons, a year-on-year decrease of 11.0%. Among them, cumulative exports were 386.2 thousand tons, a year-on-year increase of 45.1%; cumulative imports were 4399.7 thousand tons, a year-on-year decrease of 13.9%.

Imported livestock and poultry meat product structure

In August 2024, the top three products in terms of import value of livestock and poultry meat products in China were beef, pork offal and pork, with imports of US$1,109.1 million, US$237.5 million and US$188.0 million, respectively, accounting for 56.8%, 12.2% and 9.6% of the total import value of livestock and poultry meat products, with year-on-year growth rates of -20.2%, 3.1% and -21.6%, respectively.

From January to August 2024, the top three products in terms of import value of livestock and poultry meat products in China were beef, pork offal and pork, with imports of US$9,005.4 million, US$1,733.4 million and US$1,357.3 million, respectively, accounting for 58.7%, 11.3% and 8.9% of the total import value of poultry meat products, with year-on-year growth rates of -6.2%6, -15.9% and -50.9%6, respectively.
